It was brought to Hungary in the 1880s, and has been very popular since then. It is recognised not only for its purity but also for the way it blends with other wines, as it gives an excellent bouquet and flavour to less characteristic wines. In itself it has an extremely

• intensive muscatel bouquets,
• soft and easily recognisable character that soon becomes popular even with those who are less interested in wines.

On lime or volcanic soils producing significant amount of acids, Muscat Ottonel produces beautiful, rounded wines and in better years it may become a semi-dry or semi-sweet wine.
